Engine light on….Engine light off?

2003 Mazda Tribute ES automatic with 160K. The engine light comes on and throws 5 codes at least: 305, 316, 2195, 411 or 511, and the car runs like crap, missing and losing power on take off. When I reset the light using my scanner, the car runs like a champ. I don't really want to miss with it or fix it. I can;t afford it now. How can I keep it running like this now without having the light comes on, any tricks?

Try doing a little clean up.

Go buy a spray can of carburetor cleaner and follow the procedures detailed below.

This should take care of the problem.

If it doesn't actually fix the problem it will make diagnosing the problem much easier.

Same thing happened to me when the light turned on my car would run like crap and when I would stop at like a red light the whole car would shut off. but then I would wait a minute and the car would start up and run fine. the code read: "EGR failure" Try checking the EGR valve what happened to me was the EGR valve would get stuck open and make the car run too rich. and when I let the car sit a while at would close back up and run normal till it got too hot and stuck open again.

    P0306 Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
P0316 Misfire Detected On Startup (First 1000 Revolutions)
P0411 Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow Detected
P0511 MAZDA – Idle Control System Malfunction
    P2195 – "Oxygen (A/F) Sensor Signal Stuck Lean (Bank 1 Sensor 1)"

sounds like something is wrong with ur Mass Air Flow Sensor. make shure ur idle control above ur throttle and ur MAFS is plugged in or has corroded wires. id also check for a hole in ur intake system that could also be it. most likely the miss-fires are because ur car is running lean and the fuel mix ratios isn't good enough to get proper ignition. and the reason ur car runs good at first and then stops running good after codes come on is it probably goes into a limp home mode. which in most cars means instead of sequential fuel injection it uses continues fuel injection and the miss fires + the combo of this will make ur car run like crap.

    P.S. sry my grammer sucks

if we knew what the codes displayed were there would be a chance that some one can help you. seeing as how it's the same five that would rule out a possible computer failure. you haven't stated that it keeps throwing out five miscellaneous codes that are not always the same, that is why I think that it's not the computer. however if it throws out five random codes, not the same ones each time, then it is possible that it could be a computer issue. the only way to keep it from doing that is to fix it or sell it, by chance is any one of the codes having to do with the baro sensor or the map? how about the egr or tps sensor. if it's the throttle position sensor or the EGR sensors correct those issues and see where it stands. those four sensors can really play havoc with the computer operations when it comes to driveability, which is what your complaint is about.
